MAUS AND NIGHT BLOG
Maus and Night serve as companion pieces because both books have characters who are determined to survive for as long possible. In Maus, Vladek and Anja promise they will live for as long as they can with each other. This also shows the love these two have, which helps them survive against all odds. In Night, Elie is about to give up on himself and die, but he knows his father won't be able to live without him. Elie eventually makes it through, helping his father live a little bit longer. In both works, once the characters who almost gave up were okay, they stayed fairly healthy and survived. Determination to survive kept these characters alive. I think classes should read both books for a few reasons. I think classes should read Night, because it teaches students to never give up like Elie. When Elie wanted to keep living for his father, it taught me that you should never give up on anything. I think that classes in the future should read both of the books because it gives them to different views on the same important event in history, broadening their view.
